BMX

Hybrid drum machine with 121 sounds, real-time and step sequencing, sampling, a wave designer and dual-mode filter

Build a beat, then make it misbehave.

A drum pattern can be exact and still keep you guessing. BMX lets you programme each hit, then add probability, random triggering, flam, polymeter and repeats. The groove can evolve without losing the pattern underneath.

Vintage drums and your own samples

Start with 121 drum sounds, including electro, Latin and African material. Eight channels each have level, pan, an assignable voice control and three pads. Empty slots hold your own recordings. REC INPUT takes a line source or a dynamic microphone, and samples can play forward, reversed or looping.

Sculpt the hit after you choose it

Send selected voices to the wave designer and dual-mode analogue filter. ATTACK can make a sound punchier or less immediate, while SUSTAIN lengthens its peak or acts as a compressor. The filter switches between low-pass and high-pass modes. Its cutoff value can be recorded on each pattern step.

Programme by step, pads or MIDI

STEP mode builds patterns in step time. PADS mode records in real time from the voice pads or an external MIDI source. Each song holds 24 patterns, and 8 songs sit in memory. Individual VOICE OUTS are unaffected by the mixer. Three TRIGGER OUTS and analogue SYNC IN and OUT connect other analogue gear. USB and 5-pin MIDI link the BMX with other devices.
