A drummer that knows when to fill.
It is late, the song is half written and the guitar needs something to lean on. Press start and the unfinished song finds its pulse. Pick waltz, bossa nova, enka, samba or disco from 34 preset rhythms. Set any tempo from 40 to 300 bpm. Fifteen analogue voices join in. They range from bass drum and snare to congas, guiro and maracas.
It follows the shape of a song
A loop repeats. The RD-78 moves. Set a variation to arrive every 2, 4, 8, 12 or 16 bars. Rhythm B changes the feel, a break drops out for one bar and seven fills lead you on. With an optional footswitch, call the change yourself. Fade-in and fade-out switches bring a track in and let it drift away.

Your own grooves, chained into songs
In Pattern Write mode, choose 4/4, 8/8, 3/4 or 6/8 and place each voice on its steps. Short of ideas? Press CLEAR and START/STOP together for a random pattern. Store your patterns and write them, bar by bar, into tracks.

Ready for the rest of the studio
While it plays, mute single voices to strip the groove back. Voice outputs take single drums out of the main mix for their own treatment. MIDI, class-compliant USB and analogue sync keep it in time with a computer or other gear. The song you started late at night now has a drummer.
