BDS-3

Classic 4-channel analogue drum synthesiser with microphone trigger inputs, MIDI, USB and a Eurorack format

Händler finden BDS-3 (0718-ACA)

Four drum voices that a microphone can wake.

Some drum sounds come from a circuit, not a sample library. The BDS-3 has four identical analogue sound generators. A microphone, MIDI notes or USB MIDI can trigger them. The mic inputs are velocity sensitive: the louder the sound the microphone picks up, the louder the channel plays.

Shape the strike and the tail

IMPACT CLICK adds a click at the start, similar to a stick striking a drum. DECAY TIME runs from 50 ms to 7 s. PITCH sets the oscillator from below 20 Hz to over 30 kHz. BALANCE blends the oscillator with the noise generator, and UP/DOWN bends the tone into its pitch.

Movement from one effects section

In SLOW range the LFO runs from 0.1 Hz to 20 Hz. In FAST it runs from 20 Hz to 4.3 kHz. Higher FAST settings reach the audio spectrum for basic FM effects. RUN is a form of sample and hold, taking a new sample each time its channel is triggered.

From the desk into a rack

Each channel has its own 3.5 mm output, and there is a mix output. A footswitch on DECAY KILL cuts off the decay. Channels 1 to 4 respond to MIDI notes C1, D1, E1 and F1. The BDS-3 can also leave its chassis for a standard Eurorack case, not supplied. It takes 70 hp, and the ribbon cable adapter is supplied. The guide recommends an experienced service technician for the move.
