SPICE

Analogue semi-modular polyrhythmic synthesiser with 2 VCOs, 4 sub-oscillators and two 4-step sequencers

Händler finden SPICE (0718-ACD)

Let four steps grow into shifting rhythms.

Run two short sequences at different divisions of one clock and they drift apart, then meet again. SPICE is an analogue semi-modular synthesiser built for that kind of pattern. It has 2 oscillators, 4 sub-oscillators and a dual 4-step sequencer.

Rhythm from dividing the clock

One control sets a clock division, from no division to divided by 16. Apply it to sequencer 1, sequencer 2 or both. The guide notes this can be used to generate polyrhythms. TEMPO sets the internal clock from 20 bpm to 3000 bpm.

Harmony underneath every note

Each VCO has two sub-oscillators. SUB 1 FREQ and SUB 2 FREQ step down through the sub-harmonics, made by dividing the VCO frequency by integers. SUB 1 ASSIGN and SUB 2 ASSIGN let the sequences control those harmonic relationships. QUANTIZE sets 8 JI, 12 JI, 8 ET or 12 ET, or no quantisation.

Patch it further

The 24 dB/octave VCF covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz and self-oscillates at high RESONANCE levels. The patchbay offers 16 inputs and 16 outputs on 3.5 mm TS jacks. MIDI OUT/THRU sends MIDI values derived from the sequencers. Over USB, the SynthTribe app adjusts settings and updates firmware. The 1 A 12 V DC power supply is supplied.
