MS-5

Analogue synthesiser with 37 full-size keys, 2 VCOs, a multi-mode VCF, a separate band pass filter and a ring modulator

Send your guitar through the synth, not around it.

You play guitar, and you want it inside the synth sound, not next to it. The MS-5 has an AUDIO IN with a level switch for line signals, instruments such as guitar, or microphones. Your own sound can then go wherever the oscillators go.

Five sources, four destinations

The mixer has five sources: noise, VCO 1, VCO 2, ring mod and the external input. Each has its own level from 0 to 10. A switch sends each one to the VCF, the band pass filter, both, or straight to the VCA.

Two filters and a ring modulator

The VCF switches between low pass, band pass and high pass. At higher resonance, it starts to self-oscillate. The separate band pass filter has its own frequency, resonance and level. The ring modulator's X input takes EXT IN or VCO 1. Its Y input takes VCO 2, or a sawtooth, sine, square or noise shape.

Hands, feet and the rest of the studio

With footpedals, sweep the VCF frequency upwards or the VCO frequency downwards. The bender moves either the VCO or the VCF. An effects loop after the VCA takes an external effects device. MIDI in, out and thru use 5-pin DIN, and USB carries MIDI too. Keyboard CV and gate inputs and outputs link it to other equipment.
