Set the switch, then find the spot.
One session can bring a vocal take, an acoustic guitar and a kick drum. The B-1 is a gold-sputtered large-diaphragm condenser with a cardioid capsule. Its manual calls it ideal for the directional recording of instruments or individual vocals.
One switch for close and loud sources
A switch on the front sets the job. Left engages the low-cut filter, 6 dB per octave at 75 Hz, against pops and low-frequency interference. Right engages the -10 dB attenuator for pulse-type sources with high sound pressure levels, such as a kick drum. In the centre, both are off.
Presence without reaching for EQ
A level peak around 12 kHz gives the B-1 its presence. So there is no need for high-frequency EQ that could raise the overall noise floor. Its FET input is transformerless.
Ready for the stand
It runs on +48 V phantom power and needs about 6 seconds to stabilise. A suspension mount, a windscreen and an aluminium transport case are included. The body is nickel-plated brass, with a gold-plated XLR output.
