Preamp, EQ and compressor, joined by one switch.
The singer is in the booth and the take feels close. You want the microphone, the tone and the compression set once, then trusted. The 676 puts a valve preamplifier and a FET-style compressor in one unit, with Midas transformers.
A microphone, a line or a bass plugged straight in
INPUT SELECT chooses Mic at 500 Ω or 2 kΩ, Line, or Hi-Z at 47 kΩ or 2.2 MΩ. The front Hi-Z jack takes guitars or basses directly. The mic input offers up to +64 dB of gain, a -15 dB PAD and switchable 48 V phantom power. Switch phantom power on only after the microphone is connected.

Tone shaped before compression
Choose a high shelf at 4.5, 7 or 10 kHz and a low shelf at 70, 100 or 200 Hz. Each moves in fixed steps from -9 dB to +9 dB. With JOIN selected, the preamplifier feeds straight into the compressor.

From 4:1 to saturated overdrive
RATIO offers bypass, 1:1, 4:1, 8:1, 12:1 and 20:1. The All setting works at around 100:1 for a saturated overdrive. Raise INPUT for more compression and use OUTPUT to make up the gain. The VU meter shows preamp output, gain reduction or compressor output. Switch to SPLIT and the two sections work as separate devices.
